American Gods Casts Dane Cook As Mortal Douchebag

Comedian Dane Cook has joined Bryan Fuller’s TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods. He’ll play Robbie Burton, the non-divine best friend of protagonist Shadow Moon, who takes care of Shadow’s wife and job while he’s in prison. I think you can see where this is going.

American Gods Casts Dane Cook As Mortal Douchebag

I’m honestly not sure if this is a spoiler or not, but just in case: Robbie dies early in the novel in a car crash with Shadow’s wife Laura, just before he is released from prison. Shadow quickly learns (in Chapter Two, apparently) that the car crash happened because the two were having an affair and she was giving him a “farewell blowjob” at the time.

I’m not a big fan of Cook, but neither do I hate him. However, given the general perception of him in pop culture, from his movies to his comedy, it does seem like this role will be firmly inside his wheelhouse.
