Sony’s Xperia X Series Is Out In Australia In Late June

Sony’s new Xperia X series of smartphones will start to become available in Australia on 29th June at “all the usual suspects”, with pricing still to be determined. And because Sony loves its movies, there’s also a bonus from Sony Pictures if and when you pick one up.

Update: Sony has told us that the Xperia X will be the first phone released in the series, available online from the 23rd of June and in Vodafone stores from the 29th. The release date for the X and X Performance has not yet been confirmed, although we’re checking with Sony to clarify its earlier information.

The X Series comprises the entry-level XA, mid-range X, and high-end X Performance in the latest release. All use a 5-inch LCD display, have a dedicated camera button, Sony’s “absolute fit” unified design — which is generally featureless and minimalist, without unnecessary frippery — as well as expandable memory up to 200GB with MicroSD, quick charge and Qnovo adaptive charging.

The X and X Performance also have Hi-Res Audio support, PS4 Remote Play, a fingerprint sensor on the X Performance, predictive (X Performance) or hybrid (XA) autofocus on the 23-megapixel rear camera and 13-megapixel front camera, Full HD display and 32GB of integrated storage.

On top of all of the previous inclusions, the X Performance features LTE Category 9 download speeds, is IP65/68 water and dust resistant, and runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor and Adreno 530 GPU.

Here’s the list of Australian telcos that will stock each phone:

The bonus with Sony Pictures Entertainment across all phones includes 12 bonus movie downloads (to keep), valued at over $235 — there’s over 100 titles to choose from, and you can choose from latest release or back catalogue titles. You can claim the movies through the Xperia Lounge app, which is preloaded on all handsets.

We will continue to update this post when local pricing — outright and on a plan — becomes available.
