Lone Wolf And Cub To Get English Language Remake With ‘Essentially Japanese’ Cast

The production company that is currently adapting Ghost in the Shell with Scarlett Johansson has just announced that it’s remaking another famous work of Japanese pop culture. It’s acquired the rights to Lone Wolf and Cub: Final Conflict, based off the comic series written by Koike Kazuo and illustrated by Goseki Kojima.

Variety says the company in question, SP International Pictures, plans on filming in 2017. And after criticism of whitewashing Ghost in the Shell, Final Conflict will have “an essentially Japanese cast”, according to producer Steven Paul. We can only guess what that means, but you have to think that’s probably a big Hollywood star as the lead with a Japanese cast around them.

Lone Wolf and Cub: Final Conflict was a 1992 film based on the original 1970s comics, which had already spawned several films such as Shogun Assassin. In it, a samurai is framed for an assassination and subsequently becomes an assassin as a result — all while caring for his very young child.
