The new X-Men movies are rapidly running out of decades before they catch up to the present. Writer-producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that the next X-Men film is continuing down the timelines, telling Coming Soon, “The next one is set in the ’90s.”
It’s not wholly surprising, since First Class took the ’60s, Days of Future Past the ’70s and Apocalypse the ’80s. But if they keep making these movies, they will eventually just be set in the present again, which is going to be weird because at that point Cyclops, Jean Grey and the others should be in their 50s. Plus, we don’t actually know if he means the next film in the main series or the upcoming New Mutants.
Regardless, we can’t wait to see the movie version of the X-Men in their golden age.
