You might want to hurry out the door a little faster if you live in Dallas, New Jersey, New York or Phoenix, where Uber is testing stricter penalties for keeping drivers waiting and cancelling rides.
In a blog post, Uber writes that it will now charge users in those four cities if they leave a driver sat around for two minutes or more. It will also charge a fee if you cancel a ride after a two-minute grace period while it’s en route to you. The usual grace period is five minutes.
While the new penalties are currently being tested in just those four cities, Uber writes that it will “look at rolling them out more broadly” if “they improve the experience for riders and drivers”. It’s unclear on which metric the improvement will be measured.
Looks like we might all have to be a bit more organised when we Uber.
