It’s been four years since Oculus Rift fired up its first Kickstarter, but the long wait is nearly over: Rift headsets will start landing in the hands of real-life customers on Monday.
The Rift has been around so long that it’s difficult to think of it as a new piece of technology. But the development has all been in the public eye: the first crowdfunder back in 2012 was for a developer preview. Since then, we’ve gone through various generations of hardware, watched countless people fall on their arse, all to arrive at this moment.
The shipments are going to people who pre-ordered first. If you want to get your hands on a headset, you’ll have to wait until July, assuming you order tomorrow.
