A piece of horizontal stabilizer found washed up on Mozambique over the weekend was already thought to be part of the downed MH370 plane. Now, Australia’s transportation chief has furthered the case, saying the location is consistent with how the debris would have drifted.
“The location of the debris is consistent with drift modelling commissioned by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and reaffirms the search area for MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean,” according to a statement given to Reuters by Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester.
This now appears to be the second piece of MH370 that’s been found. Last summer, a jet wing flaperon that was discovered on the remote African island of Reunion was found and confirmed to have come from MH370, although French authorities have held onto it since then.
MH370 vanished while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board on March 8, 2014.
