Image Cache: Electric cars are certainly high tech, but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring, staid appliances. Morgan, a British company with a long history of bespoke, hand-laid motor cars, has unveiled the EV3 — a three-wheeled electric car made by hand and designed to be futuristic without the space-age trappings of plastic and glue. Instead, the EV3 is all about brass, copper and wood.

Under the Morgan EV3’s elongated aero-engine-esque bonnet lies a 20kWh lithium-ion battery and 46kW motor driving the single rear wheel, with the company claiming a roughly indicated 0-100km/h sprint of under nine seconds and top speed upwards of 145km/h. The dashboard has been reimagined to suit all-electric propulsion, with a digital dial showing remaining range and speed, and the usual retro Morgan touches like a magneto switch for shifting between forward, neutral and reverse drive.
Priced “comparably” to the internal combustion three-wheeler when it launches in the last part of this year, we should see the Morgan EV3 land on Australian shores around the $100,000 mark. [Morgan Motor Company]
