Aston Martin and front-running F1 team Red Bull Racing are coming together and sharing their expertise to build a hypercar, using F1 technology in the same way that Ferrari does in its flagship road cars. RBR chief technical officer Adrian Newey is joining Aston Martin’s Marek Reichman to build a brand new road-going vehicle code-named AM-RB 001.
Adrian Newey is widely considered to be one of the most successful and accomplished Formula 1 designers of all time, being responsible for the design of Formula 1 cars from March, Williams and Red Bull. His cars won the constructors and drivers championships consecutively from 2010 to 2013 with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel.
Marek Reichman is Aston Martin’s design chief and has been responsible for the creation of the brand new DB11, as well as the Vulcan and One-77 — it’s his design language that you’ve seen influencing the low, sleek, wide Astons with a modern version of the iconic catfish grille. The new car will look distinctly Aston Martin, but will have the body design of an F1 car.
The AM-RB 001 will inherit all of Red Bull Racing’s expertise in aerodynamics and composite manufacturing, but won’t be constrained by F1 regulations. What it looks like is entirely up to Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing at the moment, with only the top image released as a sneak peek of the future. To celebrate the partnership, both Red Bull Racing RB12 F1 cars will feature the Aston Martin logo throughout the 2016 Formula 1 season.
