It’s not just you that needs to upgrade your iCloud storage. A new set of reports claims that Apple has had to sign up with Google’s Cloud Platform to help power its own cloud storage service.
The Financial Times and CRN both report that Apple has signed a deal to run parts of iCloud on Google servers. According to CRN, the deal could be worth as much as $US600 million ($807 million).
It shouldn’t be a huge surprise: Apple already runs the service on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure as well as within its own data centres. But there’s still something quite amusing in Apple having to rely on direct competitors to power its own services.
