Apple Watch Is Now Cheaper, And Has New Bands

Apple Watch Is Now $US299 ($393) and Still Not Worth The Cost

It's been almost a year since the first Apple Watch was released, and following its poor sales numbers, we were hoping that we might get some much-needed love at Apple's special press event today.

Unfortunately, the geniuses at Apple have not found a way to add any meaningful updates to their overpriced wearable device. In a rather desperate attempt to gain some attention, the company (briefly) announced several new nylon watch bands (yay!) and a small reduction in price.

The Apple Watch now costs only $429, which is still a hefty price even for a smartwatch. (A correlating price drop in Australia is expected.) Of course, Apple emphasises its luxury design and strength of its app market as reasons to choose the Apple Watch over any of its competitors.

Apple has sold more than 7 million units of the Apple Watch to date, which is significantly more than any other smartwatch on the planet. However, when you compare it to the 13 million iPhone 6S and 6S Plus that were sold in just three days, the Apple Watch has plenty of room to grow.

Whether or not the Apple Watch price cut helps helps sales remains to be seen — but we can tell you that it definitely doesn't add any much-needed functionality to the Apple Watch. So if you're looking for a good way to spend a few hundred bucks, our best advice would be to look in other places than the one-year-old Apple Watch.

Drop is only for the Sport model, Apple Watch is still full price (website is now live).

I appreciate how most of the Apple articles on Giz this morning are actually calling Apple out on their bullshit. Nothing new, updates to 2+yo devices, and extra costs. You guys are right on the money, and thanks for that.

I want a watch but i will wait until second generation. Its kinda ugly, kinda thick at the moment.

That new space grey/black loop band though, oh my hello delicious.

And it's still the ugliest smart watch on the market. No wonder sales were so pitiful.

I agree it's ugly and my Moto 360 2 outshines it in every easy but you can hardly call the sales pitiful. What it shows is Apple can release an average product and people will still line up for hours to buy one.

still dont want one of these things.
