Video: In The Shallows, a great white that has no business being so close to shore menaces an extremely unlucky surfer (Blake Lively) who’s been stranded on a rock tantalisingly close to the (deserted) beach.
Here’s the official synopsis from Sony:
In the taut thriller The Shallows, Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a great white shark and stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills. It’s Jaws for a new generation.
Hmm. Anyone else kinda rooting for the shark in this scenario?
Truth be told, based on this teaser trailer, The Shallows looks way more Open Water than Jaws — wonder if there’ll be much more to the movie than Lively plotting survival strategies from that lonely rock? (IMDb only lists a total of three actors in the cast.) In the movie’s favour: director Jaume Collet-Serra’s previous films include Orphan and Non-Stop, so he has both horror and cheesy action chops to bring to the table.
