OK, the movie will actually be based off the Rolling Stone article that brought said Twitter saga to the world’s attention, but still — this is absolutely going to be the first film inspired by 148 tweets about a road trip involving Hooters, the “queen of hoeism”, a pimp, an exotic dancer and a plunge from a fourth-storey window.
James Franco — soon to be appearing in Hulu’s 11.22.63 — will direct Zola Tells All, with its story Rolling Stone writer David Kusher dubbed as being “like ‘Spring Breakers’ meets ‘Pulp Fiction,’ as told by Nicki Minaj”, according to Variety. Since Franco is someone who knows that “social media is tricky” as well as the star of Spring Breakers, he actually seems like an ideal choice.
The author of the famed tweets, Aziah “Zola” Wells, retweeted the news of the film, so she must have given her approval — as this missive from a few weeks ago suggests:
If I told y’all who I got a call from today you would never believe me. #Blessings #MakingMovesLikePuff ?
