The Star Of Hamilton May Be Joining The New Mary Poppins

These days, you can’t go anywhere without hearing about Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash Broadway musical Hamilton. He also wrote the music in Maz Kanata’s bar in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And now, this multi-talented actor, musician and writer is about to book a major movie role.

Variety reports Miranda is in talks to co-star alongside Emily Blunt in Disney’s new version of Mary Poppins. He’d play a character named Jack, who would be similar to but not the same person as Bert, played by Dick Van Dyke in the 1964 film.

Miranda popping up in a Disney movie feels almost inevitable. In addition to writing music for The Force Awakens, he’s been contributing to Disney Animation’s November film, Moana as well. And, because of that, if he ends up starring in Mary Poppins, he’ll help write some of the movie’s new songs.

This new Poppins will be directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago). It’s set 20 years after the original film in Depression-era London and will use some of original author P.L. Travers’ storylines to tell a new tale about Poppins and the Banks family.
