So, What Did The Filmmakers Cut From Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is well on its way to making eleventy billion dollars, so whatever cuts and edits JJ Abrams and co. made to the film in post-production have certainly paid off. But what about all the odds and ends that didn’t make it in? Using information from a number of sources, Mr Sunday Movies over on YouTube investigates. Spoilers ahead for The Force Awakens!

Little Miss Sunshine screenwriter Michael Arndt was one of the first to have a crack at penning the script for The Force Awakens and while most of what he concocted didn’t make it into the final film, he did have some interesting ideas.

Some sounded great:

Part of this story also revolved around retrieving information for the lost Jedi temples inside the now-underwater Imperial throne room from Return of the Jedi.

Others were completely ludicrous:

And a sequence that involved Rey (who was still Kira) shredding two Imperial star destroyers with a lightsabre.

Apparently Luke Skywalker was to play a bigger role, but the concern was he’d “pull the tension away” from the new characters. Despite a frowny face from fans, I reckon it was the right decision.

I’m sure he’ll get a chunk of screen time in Episode VIII anyway.
