See The New Huawei Mate 8 In All Its Shiny Glory

Huawei have launched its latest smartphone, the Mate 8. Although it boasts a 6-inch display and unique sleek design, the true focus is on power, efficiency and battery life.

The Mate 8 is the first smartphone to run the Kirin 950 chipset, with CPU boosting power up 100 per cent, GPU performance up 125 per cent and power efficiency up 70 percent when compared to the Kirin 925.

You’ve got energy efficiency balanced with high-end performance via four A72 2.3 GHz processors, and four A53 1.8 GHz processors.

You’ll get two days worth of (normal usage) power from a single charge. Huawei says “regular users can go without charging their phone for 2.36 days, and heavy users can go without charging for 1.65 days.”

It takes 30 minutes charge a day’s worth of power.

The Mate 8 runs on Huawei’s EMUI 4.0, based on Android marshmallow 6.0. There’s a split screen mode for multitasking alongside a built-in automatic defragmentation service for optimising system performance.

There has been an update to the fingerprint sensor, improving the identification area by 10 percent, and doubling the unlock speed.

More on the security front: The CPU supports real-time encryption of full storage for better data protection, and a microSD card lock stops anyone from accessing content without a password. Phone thieves won’t be able to get to the data.

Now, the camera. $98 million over three years has been spent on the propriety image sensor processor for faster focusing, higher clarity and more accurate colour shading. It’s got the Sony 16MP IMX298 on board, with a beauty algorithm for selfies.

The aerospace grade aluminium Mate 8 comes in a choice of four colours: champagne gold, moonlight silver, space gray and mocha brown.

For cost you’ll be looking at $904 for the 3GB + 32GB model, and $1055 for the 4GB +64GB model.

The Huawei Mate 8 will be initially available in 30 countries including: Australia, Spain, Germany, France, United, Arab Emirates, Mexico and Australia. Huawei hasn’t confirmed when that will be just yet.
