Say Hello to Sony Interactive Entertainment

Today, Sony announced that it is bringing together Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment in a new entity. It's called Sony Interactive Entertainment. The new consolidated entity will be headquartered in San Mateo, California and will be in charge of research, development and sales for the PlayStation as well as hardware, software, network services and other content.

"By integrating the strengths of PlayStation's hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation business," said Sony's Andrew House in an official statement.

"Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers' imaginations and lead the market," House continued. "We will work hard to maximise corporate value by coordinating global business operations across San Mateo, Tokyo, and London by leveraging local expertise."

Sony can change their name, but we still can't change our PSN handle!

A enterprise company merging 2 divisions of it's business is usually done to hide losses. We have known for years that the "Sony Computer Entertainment" which controls IP's like PlayStation has never been as strong as there core Appliance business "Sony network Entertainment" which handles things like there TV's. so this is more than likely just a business move to keep the investors happy rather than something to actually improve the efficiency of the company.

Maybe, but I hope it'll ease more interactive content creation. They have a huge opportunity with the PS4's rapid adoption rate, it'd be a shame to waste it.

"Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market,” House continued.

      Hope that's not just rhetoric.
