Ford Brings Android Auto And Apple Carplay To In-Car Systems

Ford is — finally — adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to a lineup of apps for the SYNC connectivity system.

Ford executive director Don Butler says, “SYNC allows customers to bring the smartphone technology they’re comfortable with into a vehicle and use it without hassle.”

With Apple Carplay iPhone users can access Maps, messages, Phone and Music via Siri or touchscreen.

Andoid users will get Google voice search, Google maps, Google Play Music among other features via steering wheel controls and touch screen with Android Auto.

4G LTE will give SYNC the ability to remotely access features of your car. Program a remote start, unlock doors, check the fuel level or find where your car is parked — all via your smartphone of choice.

SYNC’s AppLink has new apps, too. Concur allows you to easily log busines trips, Eventseeker tells you what’s happening in entertainment nearby while Cityseeker recommends restaurants, nightlife and attractions.

The features will be available in all 2017 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3, with 2016 vehicles able to upgrade later in the year.
