Did You Back Oculus Rift On Kickstarter? Then You’ll Get The New One For Free

If you donated to the Oculus Rift Kickstarter back in 2012, you’ll get a headset for free. Hey, tech companies being nice to consumers. Cool!

The company made the announcement today on a Kickstarter blog: For those who pledged enough for a developer kit, they will get a free Rift mailed to them in the coming months. It will come bundled with the video games EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale. Everyone else can preorder one starting Wednesday.

Of course, keep in mind that the kind of PC you’ll need for virtual reality needs to be super powerful, and can cost at least $US1000 ($1,394), easily. So just because you’re getting the headset for free, doesn’t mean your wallet is out of the woods, by a long shot.

Still, this is nice to see. Goes to show you never know what backing crazy-arse new technology on a crowdfunding website can do for you down the road.
