Coming Soon: Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, The Invitation

Welcome to the trailer park! This week: DC is finally putting out stuff worth being excited for, plus more horror films to keep an eye on.

Suicide Squad

Just in case you somehow haven’t already seen Suicide Squad’s first official trailer.

Synopsis:
“A secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency.”

Wonder Woman

While not exactly a trailer, this clip gives us our first look at footage from the new Wonder Woman film.

Synopsis:
“An Amazon princess comes to the world of Man to become the greatest of the superheroines.”

10 Cloverfield Lane

Is this new film somehow related to 2008’s Cloverfield? It’s highly likely.

Synopsis:
“Waking up from a car accident, a young woman finds herself in the basement of a man who says he’s saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.”

The Invitation

The moral of this story is: never respond to invitations from your creepy ex-wife.

Synopsis:
“In this taut psychological thriller by Karyn Kusama, the tension is palpable when Will shows up to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife Eden and new husband David. The estranged divorcees’ tragic past haunts an equally eerie present; amid Eden’s suspicious behavior and her mysterious house guests, Will becomes convinced that his invitation was extended with a hidden agenda. Unfolding over one dark evening in the Hollywood Hills, THE INVITATION blurs layers of mounting paranoia, mystery, and horror until both Will—and the audience—are unsure what threats are real or imagined.”

Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising

Also known as “Bad Neighbours” in Australia because we all know Neighbours is already the name of an Aussie televised masterpiece.

Synopsis:
“Now that Mac (Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Byrne) have a second baby on the way, they are ready to make the final move into adulthood: the suburbs. But just as they thought they’d reclaimed the neighborhood and were safe to sell, they learn that the new occupants next door are a sorority even more out of control than Teddy (Efron) and his brothers ever dreamed of being. Tired of their school’s sexist, restrictive system, the unorthodox ladies of Kappa Nu have decided to start a house where they can do whatever the hell they want.”

The Wave

Because there’s nothing more terrifying than a tsunami.

Synopsis:
“The experienced geologist Kristian Eikfjord has accepted a job offer out of town. He is getting ready to move from the city of Geiranger with his family, when he and his colleagues measure small geological changes in the underground. Kristian gets worried and his worst nightmare is about to come true, when the alarm goes off and the disaster is inevitable. With less than 10 minutes to react, it becomes a race against time in order to save as many as possible including his own family.”

Southbound

Southbound is the newest horror anthology from the makers of V/H/S.

Synopsis:
“On a desolate stretch of desert highway, weary travelers—two men on therun from their past, a band on their way to the next gig, a man struggling to get home, a brother in search of his long-lost sister and a family on vacation—are forced to confront their worst fears and darkest secrets in these interwoven tales of terror and remorse on the open road.”
