Coming Soon: Sci-Fi Movie And TV News

It’s time for Gizmodo’s regular Monday run down of what’s coming soon in the world of science fiction entertainment. This week: Game of Thrones gets some new teaser trailers, Star Wars: Episode VIII is delayed, Gillian Anderson was offered half of what David Duchovony was for The X-Files new series, and Netflix announces a Doctor Who star for Charlie Brooker’s twisted Black Mirror series.

Bits And Pieces

Three new teasers for Game of Thrones have been released, revealing battle banners for house Stark, Targaryen and Lannister. The sixth season premieres on HBO on 24 April 2016.

• Princess (now General) Leia will definitely be getting her own action figure in the new lineup of Star Wars Rebels merchandise. This shouldn’t be news, but it is. One day (soon, I hope), it won’t be.

• Netflix have announced casting news for the upcoming series of Black Mirror, which includes Doctor Who‘s Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

• There’s 10 more seconds of the sequel to Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane, available to watch. Yep, 10 seconds.

• Deadpool has recorded a special message for Australians on the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet.

Star Wars: Episode VIII has been delayed until 15 December 2017. The original release date was around 6 months earlier, in peak blockbuster season.

• The first look at the Wonder Woman film has been shown during a DC special hosted by Kevin Smith.

• The new Suicide Squad trailer has dropped, and although it looks a lot more humourous than previous glimpses of the film. Disappointingly, the film appears to be following the “toxic sludge” origin story for Harley Quinn, taking all agency out of her character’s evolution from psychiatrist to villain.

Stephen King’s 11.22.63 is launching on Aussie streaming service Stan first in Australia. Directed by JJ Abrams and starring James Franco, the 8 part mini series will hit Stan hours after the US release.

• DC Films has revealed the first concept art for the upcoming Justice League movie, in the lead up to DC Films presents: The Dawn Of The Justice League, a TV special airing on on The CW.

• Gillian Anderson has revealed when it came to her salary for the revival of The X-Files series, “they come to me with half of what they want to offer David.” The X-Files has now launched in the US. Aussies can catch it on Channel Ten in 6 days time.
