There’s A Petrol Station In The ACT Selling Fuel For 9 Cents A Litre Today

Metro Petroleum in Barrier Street, Canberra is discounting fuel by $1 per litre between 12pm and 2pm today. In preparation, there will be road closures and reduced speed limits.

The promotion is to celebrate the launch of the Go2 Rewards app, a “shop at this place for discounts” style program. The creator of the app Rick Firth says it is designed to “keep the bastards honest”. The app clearly shows the differences product prices at a variety of retailers, allowing the public to make better purchasing decisions.

Concern about the heavy traffic conditions this may cause prompted the ACT Government to put temporary road restrictions in place, with barriers, warnings and traffic marshals to help keep everything in order. Public transport may also be impacted.

“The temporary arrangements will mean traffic travelling to Metro Petroleum will need to access Barrier Street from the Newcastle Street entrance and exit via Ipswich Street,” a spokesman said. “A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will also be in place.”
