Hunter Moore, animate STI and founder of revenge porn site Is Anyone Up, was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday. Moore pleaded guilty to hacking and identity theft earlier this year.
Moore solicited nude pictures from pissed-off exes and posted them on Is Anyone Up, along with the identifying information of the people in the images. According to his plea deal, he also hired co-defender Charles Evans to hack accounts to pad his website with stolen sexual photos.
In addition to jail time, Moore has to pay $US2000 ($2738) in fines and an oddly specific (and small!) $US145.50 ($199) in restitution.
Moore’s sentence isn’t as heavy as Kevin Bollaert, another sleaze kingpin arrested for his role as a revenge porn distributor. Bollaert faced more serious charges, including extortion, for blackmailing women to take down sexually explicit images he posted online. Bollaert was originally sentenced to 18 years, although that has been reduced to eight years.
That said, Moore isn’t the only revenge porn distributor to get off relatively easy. Craig Brittain, who ran a copycat site called Is Anyone Down?, was investigated by the Federal Trade Commission but never charged with a crime.
Brittain is currently trying to launch an Uber copycat.
