VLC Is Working On An App For The New Apple TV

VLC — the play-everything media centre app — is coming to the new Apple TV.

If you’ve never heard of VLC, you’ve probably never played anything on a computer before. It plays just about every media file format ever made in a light, easy-to-use app for Windows, Mac and soon, the new Apple TV.

The VideoLan Organization, the company behind the VLC app, announced in a blog post today that it’s currently coding up a prototype for the new Apple TV and its tvOS platform:

Finally, some code to build VLCKit for the new tvOS was merged. It’s very early though, but we have video playback! 🙂

The team behind media centre software Plex has also pledged to make an app for the new Apple TV.

We’re headed for a golden age of media streaming!
