Most gaming headphones I’ve ever used have sacrificed actual sound quality for aggressive styling that lets everyone else know you call your computer desk a battlestation. Logitech’s latest headphones for gamers aren’t exactly discrete, but the company is promising sound quality that lives up to the visual hype.
There are two new pairs: the G633 and the G933 Artemis Spectrum. They’re both built around Pro-G drivers, which deliver the promise of surround-sound audio. There’s support for Dolby 7.1 surround sound, as well as the DTS Headphone:X surround option, on both PCs and consoles. In other words: no matter what game or device you plug them into, you should get good sound quality, and the ability to pinpoint where those footsteps are coming from.
The main difference between the two pairs comes in connectivity: the G633 makes do with a wired connection, while the G933 can use a 2.4GHz wireless connection, or stick to USB or headphone-jack inputs.
On paper (and in the well-lit press shots), both pairs look pretty fantastic, and the price tag isn’t too terrible: $329.95 in Australia for the wireless G933, or $279.95 for the cabled G633s. Both are up for pre-order on Logitech’s website, with shipping slated for October this year.
