Top 5: The Best E-Readers

Chart: Reading is a beautiful and relaxing pastime, but it’s not exactly portable, especially if you’re a commuter. If you don’t like lugging dozens of paperbacks around, why not consider an e-reader? Here are the five best e-readers available in Australia as of July 16, 2015.

Gizmodo includes scores (out of 100) on Australian reviews: full ‘How We Rate’ info is available here. That scoring is reflected in this chart, along with scores from a selection of other leading tech sites. In doing so, our goal is to make this meta-chart as useful as possible to you.

There are a lot of e-readers from a lot of budget brands available in Australia, but if you want a reliable and high-end one then your best bet is to pick from the stable of either Amazon — whose Kindle empire is unmatched — or Kobo — which has the backing of Japan’s largest e-commerce site Rakuten. It’s no surprise, then, that our top five list is comprised of three different Kindles and two Kobo e-readers, based solely on their aggregate scores from five different review websites including Gizmodo Australia.

Note: We’ve not included pricing in the table as this can change regularly, and differs between various telco plans. Use the Dick Smith links to get a guide to current costs.
