LG’s Latest Innovation Is… An Android Flip Phone?

Do you miss T9? Do you dislike productivity? Then the new LG Gentle is for you.

In today’s world of overpowered massive handsets, it’s not hard to imagine that there might be some nostalgia for a simpler time, when texting was complicated, email required a computer, and you could still count on receiving a few phone calls a day. Phone calls!

LG Gentle isn’t quite the Motorola Razr of yore. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, sports a 1.1 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of storage space, which is expandable via a microSD slot. Unfortunately, you’re not going to be able to do much with that 3.2-inch 480 x 320 display. Oh and a 3-megapixel camera because why not?

At $US175 — Korea only for now! — the phone’s not expensive per se, but remember, for about the same price you can get a Moto G, which is a full-fledged phone.

So is this phone for old folks? Or retro-obsessed “artists.” Who knows, but if it ever comes to the United States, I’ll certainly want to try it out, if only to experience what a flip phone feels like in 2015.
