How To See Public Instagram Photos From Any Part Of The World

Interested in seeing what Instagrammers are sharing in your local town or city? Or a famous landmark? With the help of a simple IFTTT recipe you can collect up snaps from a specific geographical region and have them delivered to your inbox. Here’s how to get it set up and tweak it where required.

It’s been a while since we last mentioned IFTTT (If This Then That), but we’re assuming you know the basics of the site now. Create a new recipe from scratch, choose Instagram as the trigger and New photo by anyone in area is the action option you want — you can then choose a region on a map.

You’re free to do whatever you want with the collected photos: Email them to yourself, add them to an Evernote notebook, save them to Dropbox, tweet them, even set them as the wallpaper on your Android device… it’s up to you. It’s an intriguing look at the Instagram life of a particular place and what’s happening in it right now, or at least we found that to be the case — your hometown may be different.

Other services can do the same job, like Worldcam and Gramfeed, but IFTTT gives you more flexibility. And from the other side of the fence, even if you’re fine with people stumbling across your Instagram photos (set your feed to private if you’re not), remember that as soon as you add a hashtag or a location to it, you’re increasing its visibility. Think before you share.
