It has been a month of supertall news to top them all, with the World Trade Center’s record-breaking 541m height possibly getting scooped by a surprise spire in Midtown Manhattan. Now a new rendering from Visualhouse posted at New York Yimby gives an idea of how dramatically the New York City skyline will change just 15 years from now.
A sneaky, just-announced spire atop the Nordstrom Tower (identified here as 217 West 57th Street on the far right) might make it the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere by 19 feet (5.8m), but it won’t be lonely up there in the clouds: Supertalls at 432 Park Avenue and 111 West 57th Street will also be some of the tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere. And all three are on 57th Street.
Actually, this new view will be reality closer to 2020, says NY Yimby, because most of these buildings will be completed around that time. This rendering doesn’t even show at least five more projects making their way through the approvals process, which would make the skyline that much more dramatic. And certainly isn’t making these people happy.
