This Drop Test Looks Too Good To Be True

This Drop Test Looks Too Good To Be True

By the numbers, Gorilla Glass 4 is seriously tough, able to withstand a one-meter drop onto concrete. That’s impressive on its own, but this video seems to show it withstanding something far more impressive.

The slam test — because, honestly, it’s not a drop if you pitch it full speed at the ground — is of mysterious origins, and could well just be the work of some camera trickery. But what it purportes to show is pretty amazing: a brutal test than any smartphone has the right to endure, and it doesn’t seem to have any effect.

If this video is the real deal, it means we could finally be past the era of the shattered-screen smartphone, into a new age of non-cracked glass (and declining iFixit revenues). About time too. [YouTube]
