The CEO of Chinese internet video site Leshi TV, Jia Yueting, has posted an image to his verified Weibo page which depicts Adolf Hitler wearing an armband emblazoned with the Apple logo.
The post, delivered to Yueting’s five million followers, is thought to be a promotional attempt ahead of his company’s suspected entrance into the smartphone market. Across the top of the full poster is a message that The Verge translates as “Crowdsourced, freedom vs arrogance, tyranny” — referring, it seems, to the contrast between Android and iOS.
In the message posted to Weibo, Yueting writes: “Under the arrogant regime of iOS domination that developers around the world love yet hate, we are always carefully asking, ‘Is this kind of innovation OK?’” Whether this kind of innovation is OK or not, one wonders if the more relevant question here is: should we really compare technology companies to radical leaders that think genocide is a good idea?
