Google Play Opens Up Textbook Rental In Australia

If you’re a student on a limited income — or in other words, a student — Google’s move to offer textbook rentals down under should be a welcome one.

Google’s now offering the ability to rent textbooks for variable period through Google Play for Australian users. Rental periods will differ depending on the title and publisher, as will the quantity of discount you’ll get for renting rather than buying your textbooks outright.

As digital textbooks they’re fully searchable, and notes taken “on” the textbooks can be exported, which means that even if your rental period expires, your own thoughts are still available to you.

You don’t have to be an accredited student to rent any available textbooks, which should have a “rent” button as one of its options from within the Google Play store, either.
