The Nexus 5 Isn’t Dead, It’s Just On Hiatus

Despite rumours suggesting that Google’s wonderful Nexus 5 had met its untimely demise, we’ve confirmed with Google that the Nexus 5 isn’t gone for good. At least not yet.

According to a Google spokesperson, the “Nexus 5 will continue to be available for sale on Google Play and through select retailers in Q1 2015.” So while dreams of stashing a Nexus 5 under the Christmas tree in 2014 may be dashed — because they’re totally out of stock — not all hope is lost. What happens after the early months of 2015 is hard to say, but for the time being, the Nexus 5 is still alive.

Earlier today TechRadar reported that a Google spokesperson confirmed that the handset was facing retirement. Rumours already suggested that Google stopped production on the Nexus 5 last month, and recently white and red models of the Nexus 5 disappeared on Google Play.

Late last week the Nexus 5 popped up in the US Google Play store as “in stock”, but that was short-lived, as both models are once again out-of-stock. But Google says the handset is merely on hiatus and will continue to be sold next year.
