Here’s Apple’s Best Of 2014 For Australia

Every year, Apple comes out and names its “Best Of 2014”. The music, movies, TV shows and apps it thinks rose above the competition for a particular year. The list has now been localised for Australia. Here’s what took out top honours in 2014.

In no particular order…

Music

Best artist went to Aussie favourite, Sia; Chet Faker nabbed best album for ‘Built On Glass’; Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’ won best song and best new artist went to Aussie baby supergroup, 5 Seconds Of Summer.

Apps

Elevate Brain Training took out app of the year, while game of the year went to Threes!.

Apple also makes the iPad, and there were some pretty stunning apps for that as well. Pixelmator was the app of the year, while Monument Valley was the game of the year. It seems we have an admiration for Monument Valley in common.

Movies

Best Australian movie this year was Charlie’s Country, while best family movie came out as The LEGO Movie (take that, Frozen). Richard Linklater won best director for Boyhood while best blockbuster is unarguably Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Podcasts

Podcasts are awesome, and while Serial may have taken out best podcast in the US, Aussie nerds Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and Adam Spencer took out best new Australian podcast in Apple’s best of list for their Sleek Geeks show.

Perennial favourites, Hamish and Andy, won best classic podcast for their long-running antics.
