You Can Test Drive The New Lexus RC F Via Oculus Rift

The new Lexus RC F is a car capable of squaring up to BMW’s venerable M3 — and now you can take it for a spin using Oculus Rift.

Lexus has built a virtual reality RC F using the genuine steering column and pedals from the car, an Oculus Rift, and no shortage of software. While it may not provide quite the same visceral excitement as drifting the actual car’s tail on a race track, it will allow Lexus to show off the car’s capabilities at motor shows over the coming months. You can see it in action in the video above. How accurate the drive is remains to be seen, but it does at least provide a chance to feel the steering wheel in your hand as some (pixelated) scenery rushes by. [Lexus via Engadget]
