Over the past 20 years, you entire desk has collapsed in on itself and into your computer. This video, by the Harvard Innovation Lab, shows how it happened.
The video starts with a classic desk scene from the ’80s, replete with everything from fax machine to rolodex. As time progresses, though, the Innovation Lab shows how software has taken those tangible items and made them work — better — on your computer. The process happens slowly at first, then gathers pace until we reach modern day. The team behind it explains:
‘We wondered what it would be like to recreate the desktop from the 1980′s and then emulate its transformation through the computer age. We wanted to illustrate how technology has changed our world, un-cluttering our desks and simplifying our lives. While gradual change from year to year is often hard to perceive, a longer snapshot gives us a much more dramatic view of the technological progression we have experienced.’
Honestly, even if you don’t use Pinterest, you gotta be glad to see the back of that damn corkboard. [bestreviews.com via Design Boom]
