Qualcomm has announced that its latest entry-level smartphone system-on-a-chip, the Snapdragon 210, will be cheap enough to appear in sub-$US100 off-contract handsets — and it even offers LTE.
Announced in Hong Kong, the chip features a 1.1GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPUs, Adreno 304 GPU, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11n Wi-Fi and support for display resolutions of up to 720p. But crucially it also supports multi-mode 3G and dual-mode LTE; it’s the firs cheap chip of its kind to offer LTE, in fact. The silicon is undoubtedly aimed at emerging markets, but it should also mean that even the cheapest of handsets can take advantage of faster cellular data. [Qualcomm via Engadget]
