This Is How You Talk Australian (NSFW)

Australia certainly has a rich vernacular, though one close to indecipherable to anyone outside the country. Fortunately, when it comes to language, we don’t take ourselves that seriously — in fact, we take pleasure in having a microscope put it its more ridiculous aspects — so I’m sure you’ll get a few laughs from this video parodying Australian phrases and concepts… from the perspective of a training college for Indian call centre employees. Features NSFW language.

This is actually the first clip in a series of eight from Tony Rogers, director of the TV series Wilfred and Rob Hibbert, best known for his book “Images You Should Not Masturbate To”… which I’m sure is quite the page-turner.

According to the series’ description on YouTube, it’s an attempt to “[mine] the depths of every aspect of the Australian stereotype … and asks us to visit that most Australian trait: to laugh at ourselves”.

Each clip is around 4-6 minutes in duration, so it won’t take you long to get through them. Hopefully, you come out the other side with a better understanding of Australia and yourself… and a whole swag of new insults to toss at your mates.
