Telstra 700Mhz Trials To Start In Sydney And Adelaide

"Selected Pockets" of Sydney and Adelaide will join Telstra's 700Mhz network trials in mid-September.

The two capitals will join the existing six trial sites which cover Perth, Fremantle, Mt Isa, Mildura, Griffith and Esperance in the middle of the month ahead of the full rollout next year when the 700Mhz frequencies become formally available.

There are still only a handful of full 700Mhz compatible handsets and devices on the Australian market, including Telstra's current "Ultimate" WiFi hotspots (both pre and post-paid) as well as the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Desire 610, and LG G3, although Telstra states that it expects "a range" of additional devices in the coming months.

My oneplus one also supports 700mhz :) yay

Unfortunately it's not Band 28 which is what is needed for 700mhtz in Asia, including Australia.

Check the specs, band 28 is definitely not supported, sorry.

will have to wait for the next one then ;-)

    I have a LG G3 which supports 700mhtz 4G (band 28).

I'm keen to know which "pockets" of Adelaide CBD will be covered and Telstra stated on twitter this will come in a later press release.

In Sydney CBD "pockets" could mean anywhere, but in Adelaide if 700mhtz is as good as it says on the tin, it should get through most CBD buildings I hope.

    Unfortunately my kogan Samsung S5 doesn't support 700MHz :(

Pitty, as I get rubbish Telstra reception from 4G in George St Sydney.

So will my old iPad 3 now be 4G/LTE... you know, the one they said was 4G and then had to take it all back due to the ACCC.

    Specs say: GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz), LTE (700, 2100 MHz)
