Earlier this year, the internet was collectively tickled at the reports of how NASA was conducting the recovery of some of the first photos of the moon inside an abandoned McDonald’s. This new video takes a closer look at how this surreal research lab came to be.

The doc comes our way from the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Invisible Photograph series, which highlights unique photographic stories. Part III is called Extraterrestrial, and it tells all about some scientists came upon a huge archive of images taken off the Moon’s surface in the 60’s, and decided to restore it in a cleared out former McDonald’s that stood outside of the NASA Ames Research Center.

There’s a lot of cool details about the recovery process which relates to photography and the various processes throughout history that our visual record of the world is subject to. It’s quite entertaining!
