Attacks on US networks come as little surprise these days. But the US Department of Justice is now charging a Chinese executive living in Canada with stealing sensitive data about US warplanes and selling it on.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Su Bin employed hackers to obtain data about Boeing and Lockheed Martin warplanes — like the C-17 cargo hauler and F-22 fighter — from the company servers. He then sold on the information to China-owned aviation firms.
Certainly, it sounds like this guy was in it for the profit rather than the secrets: in reports, he refers to “stingy” buyers, and he took plenty of time to hash out the best deals he could. But regardless of motivation, the news will do little soothe the ongoing US-China digital spying debacle. [WSJ]
