The Surface Mini Totally Existed: Lazy Sub-Editors Reveal Microsoft’s Secret Tablet

When Microsoft sent out the invites for a “small gathering” back in May, we all thought that a smaller version of the iconic Surface tablet was slated for release. Instead, we got the Surface Pro 3: an excellent, if unexpected, addition to the Surface family. But Microsoft’s mini-tablet secret would soon be undone: lazy sub-editing in an online user guide shows that the Surface Mini exists.

The Surface Mini — likely an 8-inch version of the full-sized productivity workhorse — was sighted inside an online user manual for the Surface Pro 3 over the weekend.

Microsoft makes specific reference to the Mini tablet several times in the guide, when talking about everything from the new Surface Pen accessory and more.

PocketLint reports a quote from the guide:

Click the top button to open OneNote, even if your Surface is locked. Bluetooth technology links your Surface Pen to your Surface Mini or Surface Pro 3, so when you click the button, your Surface responds instantly.

Whoops.

Maybe next time you’re trying to keep something secret, Microsoft, maybe don’t do a lazy Find and Replace All on your support documentation.

Microsoft won’t confirm or deny that it’s still working on a smaller Surface. Here’s hoping we get one in future, though: I do love me a Surface. [PocketLint]
