Acer’s Liquid X1 Is An Octa-Core Smartphone Flagship For The Masses

You’ve seen the flagship offerings of Samsung, HTC and Sony already, but Acer hopes to blow them all away with the announcement of its new octa-core smartphone called the Liquid X1.

You read correctly: it’s packing an eight-core processor. Previously, we’ve only really seen eight-core processors on Samsung flagship devices. Unfortunately, they’ve always been diverted away from the Australian market.

The Liquid X1 will be packing an octa-core 1.7GHz processor and a quad-core GPU, 2GB of RAM, a 5.7-inch display, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with fast auto-focus, Category 4 LTE with theoretical maximum speeds of 150Mbps down and Acer’s proprietary Android skin.

All up the Liquid X1 weighs just 160g.

Acer’s Android Skin includes a few nifty tweaks to make using a big phone even easier with apps like Acer Zoom Fit which shrinks the UI to four-inches when you’re using one hand. You’ve also got an Acer RAPID quick-launch button on the rear of the device for launching apps like the phone or camera quickly, as well as AcerFLOAT which lets you float multi-tasking windows on top of the UI.

No word on pricing yet, but Acer expects the Liquid X1 to be in the market from Q3 this year.

For those looking for something a little more restrained, Acer is also releasing a 5-inch mid-range handset in the Liquid E600, and a brilliant little travel phone in the Liquid E700, which takes three SIM cards, packs quad-band functionality and up to 60 days of standby time.
