Some people go to the beach to take a dip in the water and get some sun. Jamie Harkins goes to the beach to take a journey to another world. Harkins is a fantastic artist who transforms a beach into alternate realities by creating 3D sand art. Sometimes his art looks like people are sailing in the lake, other times they’re skating or diving or inside a robot. I want to go to the beach with him.

The New Zealand Herald says that Harkins teams with other artists, Lucia Lupf, David Rendu and Constanza Nightingale, to pull off his work at Mountt Maunganui beach. Harkins told The Herald:

We’ve seen other people doing stuff on beaches, but it’s always been geometric, flat shapes, like a pattern, so we thought we’d get into the whole 3D thing,” he said. “And I kind of like the fact that it disappears at the end of the day when the tide comes in. It makes it impermanent.”
