Sony Xperia Z2 Goes On Sale At Telstra Today

The Sony Xperia Z2 — the 2014 smartphone for everybody that hasn’t already rushed to buy a Samsung or HTC — is finally on sale through Australia’s biggest carrier. The 5-inch, quad-core, 20-megapixel, 4G superphone is available in Telstra stores now in black and purple.

The Z2 has been available for a week or so through Vodafone, and with Optus for a fortnight already. Here’s all the important info from Sony and Telstra on the Xperia Z2’s pricing and availability:

Telstra customers can purchase the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone for $6 per month additional handset payments on a $70 Telstra Mobile Accelerate Plan, when they stay connected for 24 months, which includes 1.5 GB of data ($0.03c/MB) for use in Australia ($76/month – minimum cost over 24 months is $1824) 2 min standard call $2.38.

Telstra business customers can purchase the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone for $10 per month additional handset payments on a $60 Business Performance Plan, plus when they stay connected for 24 months, which includes 1 GB ($0.03c/MB) for use in Australia ($70/month – minimum cost over 24 months is $1680) 2 min standard call $2.38.

Customers can also purchase the Sony Xperia Z2 from Telstra outright for $672 RRP.

Compared to the roughly-$850 HTC One M8, roughly-$900 Samsung Galaxy S5, and the reigning overpriced-smartphone champion, the roughly-$870 iPhone 5S, the $672 Xperia Z2 is actually a pretty damn good deal. It competes strongly on specifications, has an arguably more modern (and definitely more sturdy-feeling) design, and uses Sony’s excellent TRILUMINOS display tech for superlative colour and black levels from a regular LCD screen.

We’ll have a full Australian review of the Sony Xperia Z2 very soon, so stay tuned. [Telstra]
