Iran claims to have successfully reverse engineered and manufactured its own version of the Lockheed Martin Sentinel RQ-170 stealth drone that crashed in its territory in December 2011. It’s unknown if the claims are true or not — Iran has not demonstrated the drone flying yet.

They only thing we know for sure is that last year Iran decoded footage from the captured drone to show plausible progress in unlocking its secrets.

Iranian drones don’t have the best track record here, and the country’s Supreme Leader — who proudly tweeted the news yesterday and can be seen inspecting the drone during its May 11 unveiling — may yet be in for a disappointment.
