Animation Explains Why It’s So Important To Protect Net Neutrality

Maybe net neutrality is just something you hear about on the news and see in headlines. Maybe it’s something you don’t want to bother to understand. Or maybe you know how important it is but don’t know how to explain it to your friends why. This simple animation video by CGP Grey does all the explaining you need. It breaks down why net neutrality is important and why defending net neutrality is even more important than you think.

It all boils down to this: freedom. Everyone on the planet wants faster internet and to see less load times (like the image above). Although we might not have that right now, net neutrality keeps the pipes that provide our internet free of restrictions and maintains the possibility of that internet ideal.

Without it, untrustworthy (and incompetent) internet companies can throw in speed bumps in our data pipes, restrict certain types of data (like video streaming), charge you more for the freedom we already have and so on. It doesn’t sound fun. Net neutrality is important to your Internetting lives and we must protect it.

CGP Grey says that you can tell the FCC to reclassify broadband internet as a title II common carrier telecommunications service here and petition the White House to maintain true net neutrality here.
