Quitting your job, as with breaking up, should never be done over text message. Outgoing University of Missouri men’s basketball coach Frank Haith could certainly use a reminder: Haith just delivered his two weeks notice in a text message, reports Fox 4 KC.
After three seasons at Mizzou, Haith will be taking over as head coach at the University of Tulsa, where he’s signed a seven year, $US1.85 million contract. Money and wins (or lack thereof, considering Mizzou went 23-12 last season) aside, athletic director Mike Alden feels a little slighted:
“I don’t know if it’s deflating. It’s disappointing because I think you enjoy working with people. I very much enjoyed working with Frank. He’s a very good person. He’s a good basketball coach and it was our intention to work together for quite sometime but he made a decision that he wanted to work somewhere else and I wish him the best as he goes forward to Tulsa,” Alden said.

But more broadly, there’s a lesson to be learned here for all of us. And it’s one we should know by now. If you want to end something amicably, you should do it face-to-face. Grow a pair, buck up, and do it. The person you’re breaking up with — be it a boss, a girlfriend, or whatever — will appreciate it. And what’s more, they will probably respect you more for it.
