Exactly 20 years ago, NPR staffer Dennis Fuze circulated a memorandum to his colleagues announcing that the venerable public broadcasting powerhouse would be getting something called “internet”. In 2014, the memo seems adorably naive — which just shows you how much technology has evolved since 1994.
There is a lot of choice language in this memo but my favourite line by far is the second sentence:
To some, this will be long-awaited, good news; to others, it won’t mean much.
Either Fuze was just trying to soften the blow to folks who were nervous about new tech, or he had no idea how much the internet was about to change the way we live. Full memo below. What lines are making you crack up? [NPR Archives]
