Destroy New Zealand’s King Joffrey Statue With The Power Of The Internet

The character of Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones is not a popular one, to put it mildly. Other than writing horrible fan fiction or cursing loudly at your television, there’s really no way to express one’s dislike for the king of the Seven Kingdoms. Well, there’s another avenue now, at least for the time being — you can watch a statue of the guy being destroyed very slowly, courtesy of our friends across the Tasman.

Far from being a permanent monument to TV’s most hated fictional monarch, the statue’s set for an inevitable date with the garbage tip… it just needs a little help from the internet at large. According to the “Bring down the king” website, by tweeting the hashtag “#bringdowntheking”, you’ll push stone-Joffrey ever closer to meeting his demise via a rope tied around his neck. Said rope is also attached to a winch and well, you get the idea.

You don’t have to take my word for it — there are two live webcams of the statue if you’d like to watch it. It’s not that exciting, but I’m sure it’ll be hammered once the guy starts to fall.

It’s all part of promotion by NZ’s SKY TV for season four of the show and it’s a clever one at that. Well played New Zealand, well played.
